Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro lineup has already sparked plenty of interest, but one color appears to be attracting particularly strong early demand in the U.S.

Burgundy has emerged as one of the standout finishes in early iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders, with several Burgundy configurations moving beyond launch-day delivery while some comparable models in other colors remained available for September 18 delivery.

However, there is an important distinction: Apple has not released official color-by-color sales figures, so it is too early to declare Burgundy the best-selling iPhone 18 Pro color.

Burgundy Leads Early Pre-Order Demand

U.S. pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max opened on September 12, ahead of the September 18 launch.

During the initial pre-order period, Burgundy began showing longer delivery estimates sooner than several competing finishes.

Early Apple Store availability tracked in the U.S. showed:

iPhone 18 Pro ConfigurationEarly Delivery Estimate
Burgundy 256GBSeptember 24–29
Burgundy 512GBSeptember 24–29
Glacier 256GB / 512GBSeptember 18
Black 256GB / 512GBSeptember 18
Silver 512GBSeptember 18

These delivery differences provide an early indication of demand, although they cannot be treated as confirmed sales figures. Apple does not publicly disclose how much inventory it allocates to each color, meaning supply limitations can also affect delivery estimates.

The first 24 hours of pre-orders are particularly useful for comparison because, once most configurations begin experiencing delays, shipping estimates become less meaningful as a measure of color preference.

What About the iPhone 18 Pro Max?

The picture is slightly less clear with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Availability was already tighter across several Pro Max configurations, making it harder to determine whether one color was clearly outperforming the others.

The 1TB models, however, provided a more useful early comparison.

The Burgundy 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max moved to an estimated October 6–13 delivery window, while some Black, Glacier and Silver 1TB configurations initially showed shorter waits. Later tracking also showed Burgundy carrying an estimated wait of roughly three to four weeks.

This suggests strong interest in Burgundy, but it still does not establish an official sales ranking.

Why Is Burgundy Getting So Much Attention?

One possible reason is simple: Burgundy looks noticeably different from previous iPhone generations.

Black and Silver have long been familiar Apple finishes, while Burgundy gives the iPhone 18 Pro a more distinctive identity.

A More Noticeable Pro Finish

For buyers upgrading from an older iPhone, a new color can make the latest generation feel more visually different.

Burgundy offers a darker, richer appearance while still maintaining the understated look generally associated with Apple’s Pro lineup.

A Different Take on a Dark iPhone

For users who prefer darker phones but don’t want another Black iPhone, Burgundy offers a middle ground.

It retains the depth of a darker finish while introducing a noticeable red tone that becomes more apparent under brighter lighting.

Burgundy vs. Black vs. Glacier vs. Silver

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available in four finishes: Burgundy, Black, Glacier and Silver.

Each has a different visual character:

  • Burgundy: A darker, more distinctive finish for buyers who want the new generation to stand out.
  • Black: A classic and understated option that works easily with most cases and accessories.
  • Glacier: A lighter, cooler-looking alternative with a more contemporary appearance.
  • Silver: A traditional Apple finish that pairs easily with a wide range of accessories.

For buyers choosing between Burgundy and Black, the decision largely comes down to whether they prefer a more distinctive finish or a more neutral look.

Is Burgundy Officially the Most Popular Color?

Not yet.

The early U.S. pre-order data shows that Burgundy is generating some of the strongest demand signals, particularly because certain Burgundy configurations moved beyond launch-day delivery earlier than comparable models.

But delivery estimates are influenced by both demand and inventory allocation, and Apple has not published an official breakdown of iPhone 18 Pro sales by color.

That means Burgundy can currently be described as one of the strongest early performers, rather than the confirmed No. 1 color.

What This Means for Buyers

If Burgundy is already your preferred finish, the early availability data suggests that some configurations may face longer waits.

For buyers who are still deciding, however, popularity alone may not be the best reason to choose a color. Black, Glacier and Silver may be better suited to individual preferences, particularly when factors such as case choice and long-term appearance are considered.

Availability can also change quickly as Apple adjusts inventory, while carrier and retail stock may differ from Apple Store availability.

The Bottom Line

Early U.S. pre-orders suggest that Burgundy is one of the most in-demand iPhone 18 Pro colors so far.

Several Burgundy configurations moved beyond launch-day delivery earlier than comparable options, giving the color a notable early demand signal.

Still, there is no official evidence yet that Burgundy is the best-selling iPhone 18 Pro color. Apple would need to provide color-specific sales data for that claim to be confirmed.

For now, Burgundy is simply the color to watch as the iPhone 18 Pro enters its first weeks on the market.
